New York,
February 25, 2003 Cristina (Saralegui), the popular, award-winning journalist
and television personality, who is often lovingly referred to as the “Latin
Oprah,” has signed with IMG Licensing for representation, it was
announced by Michael Browne, senior director of licensing.
“Cristina is a one-of-a-kind personality,” Browne says. “She
sends a positive message of empowerment not only to Hispanic women, but
to all women. We are excited to be working with Cristina and are looking
forward to securing licensees in apparel, accessories, health and beauty,
home décor and furnishings on a worldwide basis.”
“There
have always been a number of opportunities outside of the media,”
Cristina says “and I am looking forward to working with IMG Licensing
to explore them in more detail.”
Cristina’s licensing partners will be able to simultaneously address
two of the most important objectives in today’s retail marketplace
– attracting Hispanic consumers and owning an exclusive brand that
creates differentiation from the competition, added Browne.
Premiering in 1989, Cristina’s self-titled talk, show, which now
airs weekly, has been the number one talk program on Spanish-language
television in America, and its international audience is estimated at
more than 100 million people. Airing in the U.S. on Univision, the leading
Spanish-language television network, “The Cristina Show,”
which is also broadcast throughout Latin America and Europe, has won 11
Emmy Awards.
Cristina
is also co-publisher of Cristina La Revista, a monthly magazine distributed
throughout the United States and Latin America. She hosts “Cristina
Opina,” a daily radio show that airs throughout Latin America and
is distributed by ABC Radio International, a division of ABC Radio Networks.
In addition to her Emmy Awards, Cristina has been honored by the National
Organization of Women in Communications and the National Network of Hispanic
Women. She has been recognized by “Who’s Who in Professional
and Executive Women” and has been named one of “The Top 100
Hispanic Influential People in the U.S.” She also received the National
Council of La Raza/Kraft Foods ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Community
Service Award for 2000, honoring her work on behalf of HIV/AIDS awareness
in the Latino community. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
and most recently was voted one of “Ms. Magazine’s Women of
