Cristina Receives An Honorary Doctorate From Florida International University
Cristina received an Honorary Doctorate in Public Service from Florida International University for her contributions to public social development. The ceremony took place on Monday, December 18th at Pharmed Arena— University Park—Florida International University.
“I am honored and deeply touched by such a prestigious recognition,” said Cristina. “ As a hometown girl I have witnessed firsthand FIU (Florida International University) become a pillar of our South Florida community, helping shape and forge the future of many students throughout its existence.”

CRISTINA SARALEGUI is a 30-year veteran journalist who is recognized as one of the most influential role models for today’s Hispanic woman. Time Magazine recently selected her one of the “25 Most Influential Hispanics in America.” In October of last year, Cristina became the first Latina to be inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame, where she joins such television legends as Walter Cronkite, Barbara Walters and Johnny Carson. In 1989, Cristina made her television debut as host and executive producer of The Cristina Show on Univision, the nation's leading Spanish-language television network. In 2007, Cristina celebrates 18 years on the air and after 12 Emmys and over 4,000 shows, The Cristina Show is still one of the highest rated programs on Spanish-language television airing Monday nights at 10 PM (EST) on the Univision Network.
In 2004, Cristina created the Casa Cristina Collection™, the first complete collection of home furnishings inspired by her personal style. To date, the Casa Cristina Collection™ is comprised of furniture, home accessories, lighting, mattresses, bed and bath accessories and kitchen textiles.
In November of 2006, Cristina was ranked among “The 50 Most Influential People in Home Furnishings Style and Design” by Home Furnishings News (HFN).
Cristina, and her manager and husband Marcos Avila, preside over a multi-media company under the banner Cristina Saralegui Enterprises (CSE). The media properties include a bilingual website www.cristinaonline.com, as well as Blue Dolphin Studios, a 50,000 square foot state of the art television production facility with three soundstages available to outside productions. Blue Dolphin Studios also serves as the home of The Cristina Show and as the headquarters for all CSE subsidiaries.
